Marlene Kvien

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marlene Kvien of Roseau, MN will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseau.  Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.

Marlene Louise Kvien passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016 at the Oak Crest Senior Living residence at the age of 83.

Marlene was born on August 9, 1933 in Malung Township of Roseau County, MN to Anna (Krzoska) and Frank Zak.  She grew up and went to school in Roseau.  She and Donald Kvien were married September 7, 1954 and raised five children.  They moved to North Dakota where Donald worked in the oil fields, and Marlene worked at restaurants wherever Donald’s job took them.   After moving back to Roseau, she worked at Northern Upholstery and Polaris Industries.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Roseau Eagles Club.

In her earlier years, Marlene loved dancing.  She also enjoyed the outdoors, helping with the cattle, mowing the lawn, gardening, canning, fishing and snowmobiling.  She will be remembered for her strength and endurance throughout her life.  She was a very independent and determined person who always cared for her family.  Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Douglas) Meier of Badger, MN, Natalie (Peter) Stauffenecker of Greenbush, MN, Les (Deb) Kvien of Chicago, IL and Andrea (Cameron) Olson of Badger, MN; 8 grandchildren, Kyle, Priscilla, Jerad, Donnie, Logan, Madison, Elliot and Sophia; great-grandchildren, Abby, Gavin, and Carson; sister, Marjorie Przekwas of Roseau and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald in 1986; son, Jerome; and brothers, Clarence, Donald, Delbert and Richard.
