Vernon "Vern" Olson

Vern Olson was born on Jan.  6, 1923 in Spooner, MN to his hard working and loving parents, Nels and Christine (Lundmark) Olson.

Vern was a man who loved unconditionally and was unconditionally loved.  He loved to sing Christian Hymns and loved to laugh and that laughter will surely be missed.

In the 4th grade Vern met the “love of his life”, Helen Cave and fell madly in love with her!  At that time, she did not have the same feelings towards him at all – she was a “city-girl” and he was a “farm-boy” with you know what on his shoes!  Her feelings changed when he joined the Navy during WWII.  Vern and Helen were married on Oct. 6, 1944 in Seattle WA by a Chaplain on the base.  God Blessed Vern and Helen with 3 children – 2 sons and 1 daughter. 

Vern worked in the transportation industry all of his working years, living in Minneapolis MN, Winona MN, Grand Island NE and Kansas City before  retiring in 1989. 

After retiring, Vern and Helen loved to travel in their motor home all over the Midwest, North, South, Southwest and even to Alaska.  After Helen went to be with her Lord and Savior in 1993, Vern spent the next couple of years in AZ during the winter and in Kansas City in the spring, summer and fall.  In 1995 he was re-introduced to Lenore Carlson and they married later that year – Vern once again became a citizen of the town he grew up in! Lenore preceded him to Heaven in 2012. 

Vern made us all better people by becoming the man God created him to be!  What a wonderful, loving and God-Blessed life Vern has had and he will be missed immensely! 

A Memorial Service will be held on July 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church of Baudette, MN to celebrate his loving life.
