Roseline "Rose" (Foxhoven) Gubbels

Rose I. Gubbels, age 89, of Baudette, MN died on November 11, 2015, at Lakewood Care Center with family at her side.

Roseline “Rose” was born June 20, 1926, in Crofton, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry and Veronica Foxhoven. Roseline was the oldest of eleven children and was raised in rural Crofton. Grades 11 and 12 were spent at Holy Trinity School in Hartington, NE, where she stayed at the convent during the week and went home on weekends. She took a Normal Training Course during that time which allowed her to teach one year after graduation. She taught at Liberty High Country School in Pleasant Valley and lived in an apartment above the classroom. During this year she met Louis Gubbels and they were married June 18, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Constance, NE.

Rose and Louis moved to Baudette, MN, in 1952 where they farmed and raised 11 children near Clementson. Rose is remembered for all her hard work, homemade baking and cooking, her strong religious belief, and love of her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Cribbage with family and friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Ladies Aid and laundered the alter cloths for many years. Louis died in January 1995. She stayed on the farm for several more years until she moved into the Commons. On July 11, 2015, she moved into Lakewood Care Center.

Rose is survived by her sons Gerald (Merlyce), Rodney (Judy), Robert (Jill), David (Carol), Michael, Patrick (Lori), all of Baudette; daughters Louise (David) Erickson, Sharon (Ben) Mink of Baudette, Joyce (Greg) Benoit of Crookston, MN, Janice (Tim) Milliard of Sleepy Eye, MN, Janet Schwartz of Sitka, AK; 31 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings Gerald (Ruth) Foxhoven, Angeline (Don) Ryan, Beat (John) Poppe, JoAnn (Ray) Poppe, Damien (Vivian) Foxhoven, Daniel (Fran) Foxhoven, Darlene (Konrad) Maibaum and Joe Foxhoven.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Veronica; husband, Louis; brothers, Henry and Art Foxhoven; brother-in-law, Don Ryan; and grand son-in-law, Jeff Stephani.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baudette.  A visitation/wake will be on Sunday from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 Prayer Service AT THE CHURCH.  Burial will be held at Veteran’s Park, Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, MN, where she will lay to rest next to her husband.
