Robert E. Herling

Memorial services for Robert "Bob" E. Herling of Roseau will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 10 AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at the Falun Cemetery.

Robert (Bob) Emil Herling passed away after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on May 17, 2016, at the Altru Hospital In Grand Forks at the age of 73.

Bob was born on March 27, 1943, in Roseau, MN to Leonard and Dorothy (Hendershot)

Herling. He was the second of five sons. He grew up in Falun Township, going to the

schools of West Falun, Malung and Roseau High.Upon adulthood, he worked with a custom combining crew, working in several southern states. He then worked at Northland Tire from 1966 to 1976. After this he hauled grain for several years, later purchasing a truck with his good friend, Darvin Johnson, which they leased to Northstar. For several years he worked for R & Q Trucking. He enjoyed this work, even driving when he was in severe pain. He took special care of the truck he drove, calling it "his truck", taking care of it as if it were his own.

Bob married DiAnn Degerness on May 14, 1966. From this union a daughter, Lorrie, was born. She was his pride and joy.

Bob loved going out to eat and the special attention he received from the owners and waitresses.  He also loved the attention he received from his friends at Sunburst. He was a faithful fan of hockey, keeping track of "the Big Buff", and the Twins. He will be remembered for his attention to detail, his amazing memory, and his love for his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Lorrie (Charlie Cox) of South Minneapolis, brothers Alan (Iris), Greg (Louise), and Neil (Kris) Herling of Roseau and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Dorothy and his brother Daniel.

Memorial services 10 AM Saturday, May 21st at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.  Interment will be at Falun Cemetery.
