Interment for Richard and Miriam Teal will be held at the Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette, Minnesota on May 7th, 2016 at 3pm. A celebration of their lives will be held immediately following at the Baudette Depot.
Richard “Dick” Teal was born on January 21, 1926 in Baudette, Minnesota to Cleona (Dunn) and Jesse Teal. Dick passed away on December 7, 2015 in Boise, Idaho. His siblings were Cleman (Velma) Teal, Joseph (Gloria) Teal and Vonda (Fritz) Boeckers, all deceased.
Miriam (Hintz) Teal was born on May 23, 1927 in LaPorte, Saskatchewan, Canada to Rev. Reinhold and Ida (Neumann) Hintz. Miriam passed away in Goldendale, Washington on December 5, 2012. She is survived by brother Luther (Mary) Hintz. She was preceded in death by brothers Ernest (Marge) Hintz, Harold Hintz and sisters Gertrude (Henry) Mische, and Idalia Hintz.
Miriam and Dick are survived by: their children, Jeff (Deborah) Teal of Washington; David (Sally Saddler) Teal, of Alaska; Roger Teal of Tennessee; JoAnne Teal Craig of Idaho; and their hanai (informally adopted) daughter Lynne (Dave) Witte, of California; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was a WWII veteran who served on the Pacific front, having joined the U.S. Navy at age seventeen. After the war he ran a service station in Minneapolis for several years. During this time he met Miriam, who was just finishing nurse’s training to become an RN. The two were married on July 24, 1948 in Shakopee, Minnesota. Dick became an air traffic controller, and the family, including their four children, lived in Alaska, Minnesota, and Hawaii during his over 30-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The couple had a warm and welcoming home and loved being surrounded by family and friends. Dick was able to repair just about anything and one of his greater joys in life was helping others with projects, big or small. Miriam was also generous with her time and talents, which were many. They were very active with the Lutheran church wherever they lived and they were instrumental in the construction of two major church buildings throughout their lives.
After retiring Dick and Miriam made several international trips before traveling extensively throughout the United States. They volunteered for many years for Habitat for Humanity before settling down again, this time in Goldendale, Washington in 1992. There, they continued to welcome family and friends from all over the United States. Miriam enjoyed long walks, crossword puzzles, and flowers; Dick loved building roads and maintaining his fleet of aging construction equipment.
Dick and Miriam brought love and joy to all who had the privilege of knowing them. They are loved and missed but their memories will brighten our lives forever.
