Memorial Services and graveside prayers for Mildred Ann “Millie” Thompson of Roseau will be held on Monday, April 13 at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will take place in Alaska at a later date.

Millie was born in Gilroy, CA to Alice (Staub) and George Pierce on April 29, 1945.  She was raised and attended school in Gilroy.

In 1962 Millie married Wayne Huston in California.  They have four children, Ron, Robin, Steve, and Scott.  In 1965 they drove to Alaska where Wayne’s parents resided and made Alaska their home. 

Millie was a homemaker and volunteered a lot.  She helped with the Cub Scouts, the PTA, the Spenard Little League, and was a charter member of the Spenard Community Council.  Mayor George Sullivan appointed her to the Anchorage Municipal and Park commission and also to the Ad Hoc Tax Reform commission.

Millie was a very active bowler and competed in several different leagues.

Millie later moved to Roseau, Minnesota and worked at Marvin’s for four years.  She also worked at the Roseau American Legion and at the Roseau Municipal Liquor Store.  She retired in 2006 due to health reasons.

Mildred Thompson passed away surrounded by family on April 8, 2015 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau.  She was 69 years old.

She is survived by her children: Ron (Kay) Huston of Wannaska, Robin (Jeff) Barber of Wasilla, AK, Steve (Kathy) Huston of Anchorage, AK, and Scott (Kelly) Huston of Wasilla, AK;  Grandchildren: Tim and Lacey Rathbun, Christopher and Becky Rathbun, Ashley Huston, Kyle Huston, Alicia Sundahl, Matt Huston, Mindy Huston, Chase Huston, Devon Huston, Carter Huston, Aiden Huston, Isabella Huston; Great Grandchildren:  Ja'von Huston, D'Mari Huston, Logan Rathbun, Bailey Rathbun; sister Nancy Howes of Wasilla, AK; brothers Jon and George Pierce; and sister-in-law Theda (Bob) Rummery.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Chuck, and brother-in-law Richard Howes.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to LifeCare Manor’s wonderful past and present staff members, and Millie’s fellow residents and friends.  They helped make her last few years special and made LifeCare Manor her home.
