Enid Elizabeth Landby, 85, passed away on November 29, 2015, at the Warroad Senior Living Center.  She was born April 23, 1930, in Baudette, MN, to Myrtle (Turner) and Clarence Peterson.  She attended school in Pitt and Baudette, graduating from Baudette High School in 1948.  During and after high school, she worked as a “number please” telephone operator in Baudette.  Around age 20, she set off on a grand adventure with friends Pat Hackett (Gore) and Joyce Slick.  They traveled to California by train and lived there for a year or so.  Many years later, when asked what brought her back home, she pointed to her husband Bill.

Bill Landby, of Swift, and Enid were married on March 23, 1952.  Their 63 years of married life were spent in Swift then Warroad.  They had 4 children, but lost their third child, Lizbeth, to cancer in 1959.

Enid’s primary occupation was homemaker, but she also worked part-time for some years as a Warroad telephone operator and later for the US Customs, inspecting cars and planes arriving from Canada.

Some of Enid’s community involvements included the Union Congregational Church (Sunday School teacher, Women’s Fellowship), Warroad Baptist Church, Girl Scout troop leader, the Green Thumb Garden Club, Women’s Aglow, volunteering at the Warroad Care Center, and leading women’s Bible studies.

A devout follower of Jesus Christ, Enid lived out her faith through her gifting in the areas of hospitality and  prayer ministry, and was an integral part of Bill’s service with the Salvation Army.

Enid had wonderful energy and zest for life.  Favorite outdoor activities included walking, cross-country skiing, bird-watching, and gardening.  She loved learning and was an avid reader.   She would tackle almost any project.

The home of Enid and Bill was warm and welcoming and was a center for gatherings of family and friends.  Enid was a marvelous cook who loved to entertain.  Bill was fond of pointing out that ENID spelled backwards is DINE.

Enid did not live long without her beloved husband Bill, whose date of death was October 23, 2015.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother Edsel; daughter Lizbeth; and son-in-law Gregory

Van Natta.  She is survived by children Steven (Laura), Linda Van Natta, Scott (Richard); grand-children Matthew, Bethany and Jeffrey Landby; sisters-in-law Barbara (Eckel) Peterson, Martha (Landby) Whaley, and Ilene (Johnson) Landby; brother-in-law Raymond Green; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service of Christian burial will be held at the Warroad Baptist Church on Thursday December 3, 2015 at 10 AM with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the service.  A service of visitation and  remembrance will be held at the Warroad Senior Living Center on Wednesday December 2  from 5-7 PM.

Memorials preferred to the Warroad Senior Living Center.
