A Funeral Service for Earle R. Goos of Roseau, MN will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00PM at Rose Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Interment will be held at Malung Cemetery.

Earle Rudolph Goos, age 83, a life-long resident of Malung Township, Roseau County, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Earle was born November 13, 1932, to Edward and Olivia (DeLude) Goos, in his grandparents log cabin on their homestead in Malung.  He attended the Brandt School District #3 through the eighth grade.  There were seven children in his family: Luverne, Norma (Halverson), Merle, Earle, Lorna (Lee), Ronald, and Morris.

Earle worked on the farm until he was drafted into the US Army in May of 1953.  He served his country during the Korean conflict until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1955.  After discharge, he returned to the farm.  Earle and Loretta (Norman) were united in marriage September 14, 1957. Together with Earle’s brother, Morris, they continued to farm until 2012, when they sold the Goos homestead to Earle’s daughter and son-in-law.

Earle had a love of the outdoors, whether it was snowmobiling in his earlier years, spending time hunting with family and friends at their cabin in Beltrami, or fishing on Lake of the Woods, he was happiest when he was out in nature.  He also found delight in spending time with his many friends…getting together each morning for coffee at the Cenex C-Store, as well as playing cards with friends after church on Sundays. Together with his brother Morris, Earle also enjoyed restoring antique tractors; he took pride in giving new life to something old.

He was a life member of the VFW, a member of Cooties, and a member the American Legion.

Earle loved the farm, his family, and his friends. He believed in living with integrity, and honesty; he was always concerned about the feelings of others. He has left behind a rich harvest of memories to cherish, honor, and emulate.

Surviving Earle are his wife Loretta, their two sons and one daughter: Danny Goos, Roseau; David (Renae) Goos, Baxter; Deon (Stephen) Haugen, Roseau; he was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren: Mark (Kylie) Haugen, Roseau; Stephanie Haugen, Thief River Falls; Jordan (Della) Goos, Baxter; Ryan Goos, Baxter; and a proud great-grandfather to one great-grandson: Eli Haugen, Roseau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, two sisters, and their spouses: Luverne (Carrie) Goos, Norma (Gordon) Halverson, Merle (Rose) Goos, Lorna (Robert) Lee; two nephews: Glen Lee, and Gary Halverson; and sister-in-law: Dorothy Goos.
