Its mid August and I just learned of this great man's passing.
I had seen Hank on LOWISA's and around sailing but we'd never spoken.
Then one horrific weekend I crossed the lake with three non-sailors in a tired old boat and thru a nasty storm.
Arriving late at the Warroad dock Hank was there to greet us. We were tired, everything was soaked, just a mess. Hank stepped in and before you knew it we were eating bacon and eggs in his kitchen, our clothes in the dryer and bunks set up in his camper.
What a gentleman, Virginia, all our love, always.

Hank and Jenny were good friends of my folks from Texas, Doris and Bill Goodman. Hank and Dad served together in the Navy in the Pacific Theater of battle and met up at their Navy Reunions. I met them in Colorado at one of those reunions and they both made a lasting impression. Just saw Hank's obituary and wanted to tell Jenny thanks so much for sharing him and I'm sorry for your loss. Peace to your family.

Virginia and family,
We miss seeing and chatting with Hank at the WSLC and think of him each week we are there. We know you miss him a lot, too. We have prayed for you. GOD is your greatest Comforter and you can trust in the promises of GOD's word, such as John 14:1-6 and John 11:25 and 1 John 5:11-12 and John 3:16. And one day there will be a great reunion as 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-17. Hank always requested the "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross." He was quite a guy! We care and send our love. Jule and Pat

My wife Jan and I knew Hank for many years as we had rented sailboats from him to cruse the islands. We always tried to visit Hank and Virginia every time we were visiting my folks in Warroad. We also attended LOWISA together, and when I was commodore (1990) Hank ran the REPAX fleet. Great guy, I'll miss visiting with him.

Hank, with his sailboat charters introduced me to Lake of the Woods in 1975. That experience was so life changing that I committed myself to charter a boat from Hank and sail LOTW every year as long as i was able. Hank was not only the best advisor on sailing out of Warroad, but his sense of humor and inexhaustible collection of life stories made him unforgettable to me. Some of my lifetime peak experience I owe to Hank for his introduction to the beautiful Lake of the Woods. What a great man!

My heart is with my cousins and Ginny and other family. Hank, always known as "Uncle Doc" to me, was a fun Uncle. And most of all provided me with some swell cousins-Lisa, Dana & Nat.

My condolences to Ginny, Tanya, and the whole family. I spent a good share of my adolescence in their home, and will allways remember kabitzing with him, and hearing stories of days days gone by, and opinions of times present.

The greatest generation. Yes. He was among them.

Love,
Scott Landby
