A public visitation, following MN St. Covid Guidelines, for Wayne Olafson of Roseau will be held on Friday, January 15th from 5-7, with a 7:00 prayer service, at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. A private funeral service will be held followed by interment at Spruce Cemetery.
Wayne LeRoy Olafson passed away with family members by his side on January 11, 2021 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after a short battle with cancer. He was 60 years old.
Wayne was born in Roseau, MN on November 2, 1960 to Gordon and Martha (Larsen) Olafson. He was the oldest of five children. He grew up in Roseau and attended school there, graduating from high school in 1979. After graduation, Wayne continued to make his home in Roseau.
Wayne worked at Marvin Windows, Polaris Industries, Sorensen’s Automotive, Renew Cleaning, Culligan and CHS Ag Services. He retired in 2019. He was a member of the Spruce Free Lutheran Church where he volunteered, mowing the lawn and plowing snow.
Wayne will always be remembered for his unconditional love and kindness that he had for his family and friends. He was very organized and detail oriented. He was always the first to arrive at gatherings. Wayne enjoyed driving around the countryside looking at crops and visiting family and friends, checking on how they were doing.
Wayne is survived by his parents Gordon and Martha Olafson of Roseau; siblings Mark (MaryAnn) Olafson of Roseau, Scott (Shelly) Olafson of Roseau, Joni (Mike) Bedard of Roseau, Nathan (Stephanie) Olafson of Badger, MN; twelve nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and nephews, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Evelyn Larsen and his paternal grandparents, Olaf and Erma Olafson; and many aunts and uncles.
