Obituary
Violet Matthias, of Baudette passed away on December 28, 2022 at Roseau Manor at the age 74.
Violet was born January 4, 1948 in Georgetown, Guyana to Archibald and Viola Forde. She grew up with 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
Violet was a school teacher in Guyana before becoming a registered nurse and midwife. She obtained a scholarship that allowed her to come to the U.S. She moved to New York to continue her career as a registered nurse. A career move landed Violet in New Jersey for a short time. She relocated her family for a better life to Baudette, MN, where she worked as a registered nurse at Lakewood Care Center. She worked for over 35 years at LCC, where she provided love and care to the residents. She will be remembered for the joy and gift of song that she shared with them all.
The Matthias and Forde family is devastated by the loss of Violet, but will continue to carry on her love and memory.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Archibald and Viola Forde, brothers Claude Forde, Oslem Forde, Lancelot Forde and sister Loreen VanBerkle.
Violet is survived by her children Kevin Matthias, Althea (Matt) Curfman, Rydell (Christina) Matthias, Selwyn Matthias, Kassandra Matthias, Cornelius Matthias and Leonard (Nikita) Matthias; brothers Ashley (Elaine) Forde, Nelvin (Velma) Forde and Eric Forde; sisters Megan Forde and Paulette Forde; numerous grandchildren.
A private ceremony was held on Saturday December 31st at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN.
