Susan "Sue" Kay Hanson

A Funeral Service for Susan will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau at 11:00am with visitation an hour prior. A visitation will be held the night before at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 5:00-7:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Interment will be at Hope Cemetery in Roseau.

Sue Hanson, of Roseau, MN passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022 at the age of 69. 

Susan Kay Hanson was born in St. Anthony Village, MN on January 19th, 1953 to parents Merlin Roy and June Beverly (Gordon) Anderson. She graduated high school from St. Anthony Village and then attended Bemidji State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Elementary Education and Elementary Music. 

It was in Bemidji where she met the love of her life, Terry Hanson. They were married on June 22nd, 1974. They were married for 47 years and will never have to spend an anniversary apart as they will now be reunited for their 48th. 

Their marriage together started in LeCentre, MN and Montgomery, MN. In 1977, they moved to Roseau, MN where they raised their three boys, Jason Louis, Matthew Ross, and Justin Shawn. She lived there until the time of her death. She stayed home to raise her children while also teaching piano. She had been very active in the Women of Today. In 1994, she started working in the dietary department at LifeCare Medical Center, retiring in 2020. This is where she met many of her lifelong friends. 

Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, never missing their events. She was always up for an adventure, ready and willing, even at the last minute. She enjoyed singing for special occasions, playing and teaching piano, traveling, and casinos. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. 

She is survived by her children; Jason (Tanya), Matthew (Amanda), and Justin; grandchildren Madison (Jared) Strand, Kyle (Becca), Haley (Alex), Paisley, Mason, Josie, and Oliver; sister Virginia (Pete); brother-in-law Gene; brother-in-law Tyrone (Shirley); sister-in-law Judy (Tom); brother-in-law Jerome (Natalie); sister-in-law Vicki (Mike) 

She was preceded in death by her husband Terry; mother June; father Merlin; step father Bud; sister Sandy; nephew Nick; parents-in-law Louis & Rose Marie; and niece Jessica.
