Steven Roseen Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Steven D. Roseen of Roseau, MN will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11:00AM, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 5-7PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7PM. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Roseau, MN. 

Steven Douglas Roseen, 77, of Roseau, Minnesota, passed away on December 3, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, after a short illness with lung cancer.
Steve was born August 16, 1948, in Portland, Oregon, to Lloyd and Marian (Sjodin) Roseen. He attended school in Highmore, South Dakota, and graduated from Roseau High School in 1967. He later completed Peace Officer’s Training and became a licensed peace officer in the State of Minnesota.
On June 11, 1977, Steve was united in marriage to Diane (Brazier) at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush. They made their home in Roseau, where they raised their family.
Steve served in the United States Army from June 1967 to June 1971, including service in Vietnam as a high-speed Morse code interpreter. In November 1971 he began his long career with the Roseau County Sheriff’s Department. He worked as a dispatcher/jailer, then as a road deputy beginning in 1978, and later as an investigator, retiring from full-time duty on May 31, 2002. He continued to work part-time for the Sheriff’s Office until mid-November 2025. He also served as a Flood Outreach Worker for Northwest Medical Center, a Roseau County Victim Service Advocate, and a Midwest Monitoring Field Agent. In all, he worked with the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office for 54 years, serving as a licensed MN Peace Officer for 47 years.
Steve was an active member of Friends of Hayes Lake State Park. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly fishing, antiquing, target shooting, gardening, and photography. He will be remembered for his quiet dedication, dry sense of humor, and his deep love for his family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Diane; sons Jeremy Roseen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Joshua (Sara) Roseen of St. Hilaire, Nathaniel Roseen of Roseau, Luke Roseen of Heber City, UT, and Joseph Roseen of Roseau; granddaughter Claire Roseen of Roseau; sisters Rachel (Bryan) Olson of Roseau and Marie (Kevin) Johnson of Salol; uncle Lyle (Karolyn) Roseen of Roseau; aunt Lois Bergland of Thief River Falls; mother-in-law BeauMondie Starren of Badger; brothers- and sisters-in-law; Vernon (Lynn) Brazier of Middle River, Curtis (Patty) Brazier of Ham Lake, Gloria (Todd) Stahlhut of St. John, IN, Brian (Shelly) Brazier of Cambridge, Paul (Anita) Brazier of Argyle, Audry (Bob) Kast of Andover, Roger (Rachael) Brazier of Big Lake, Lyle (Loralie) Starren of Roseau, Glenice Viken of Roseau, Dennis (Sharon) Starren of Roseau, Linnea (Tom) Horn of Houston, TX; goddaughters LilyAnn and Eliana Mehlstrom; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents Emil and Cecelia Roseen; maternal grandparents John and Ludikka Sjodin; father-in-law Samuel Starren;  sister-in-law Darlene Bowden; and nephew Michael Starren.
