Stephen Stengrim

Stephen Stengrim passed away unexpectedly at the age of 61 on December 25, 2022. While his departure was sudden and left all of us stunned, we’ve come to believe that it happened now as he knew we would all be together.

Stephen was born October 17, 1961 to Chester and Sally (Kukowski) Stengrim at Wiesbaden, Germany air force base.  He graduated from Greenbush High School in 1980.  Stephen’s daughter Sarah Nicole was born in 1983 and his son, Donovan Emery followed in 1988.

Stephen’s career began at Marvin Windows and Doors in the Casemaster department.  He moved to Omaha, NE for a short time and upon his return to Greenbush, Stephen attended Northland Technical College and graduated with a degree in architectural drafting and design.  He returned to Marvin Windows and was part of the Research & Development test lab at the time of his death.

Stephen was an avid deer hunter and loved spending time outdoors looking for asparagus and morel mushrooms. Stephen lived for the hunting land and the cabin he built with the help of his son and son-in-law. His pride and joy were his two Siamese cats. He would take them and their toys to the cabin to entertain them all.  Stephen was fascinated with WW2 and could tell you about any battle of war, any type of war vessel or aircraft.

Stephen’s wit and dry sense of humor was appreciated by his family and friends.  He was unique and sometimes difficult to love, but he was a soft hearted man.  He had a way with written words, and would write many short stories. Stephen was never afraid to voice his opinion on a matter, but was also reserved and kept his own feelings deep inside. 

Stephen leaves behind two children and several grandchildren:  Sarah (Brian) Foss of Roseau, MN and children Tanner, Dillon, Breydon, and Jacob; Donovan (Natasha) Stengrim of Salol, MN and children Annabelle, Colin, Evelyn and Theo.  Stephen also leaves behind his mother Sally Stengrim of Greenbush, MN; siblings Chris (Nora) Stengrim of Lebanon, OR; Cassandra (Scott) Robb of Greenbush, MN; and Stacie (Daniel) Laurencelle of Winnipeg MB; and several nieces and nephews and his two feline companions.

Stephen is preceded in death by his father Chester Stengrim; grandparents Carl and Clara Stengrim, Damazy and Victoria Kukowski, two angel grandbabies and his favorite feline, Eodwyn.

To honor Stephen’s memory, a Celebration of Life Memorial for family and friends will be scheduled for a later date.
