Shirley A. Magnuson

A funeral service for Shirley A. Magnuson will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11:00AM at Concordia Lutheran Church in Ross, MN. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Concordia Cemetery.

Shirley Ann Magnuson was born on December 29. 1938 to Alvin and Alice(Olafson) Magnuson. She was born and raised on a farm in Ross, MN. She went to grade school in Ross and High School in Roseau. She was confirmed in 1953 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Ross and graduated from Roseau High School in 1958.

Following graduation, She took business courses in Thief River Falls Vocational School. Her path led her to Albert Lea for child care, Grand Forks and worked in the Library,  Roseau. She moved to Minneapolis in 1977 and resided there until 2005 when she retired and moved back to Roseau.

Shirley spent her career in childcare, office work, housekeeping work for the YWCA and Central Lutheran Church. The “Y” and the US Post Office have recognized her for exemplar work.  At Central Church Shirley served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher for three year olds for 15 years, head of mailing services for 18 years. She was also an active member of the Grand Central Magazine Ministry Team. 

Shirley is also a writer and has written poetry and prose. She includes with every poem a heart with the letter TGFJ (Thank God for Jesus).

The term “Stewardship of People” was made for our Shirley. Those that know and love her know that Shirley is about loyalty, faithfulness, cheerfulness and steadfastness in service.  She has loved and cared for others by remembering birthdays, special occasions, mailing personal notes and phone calls to check in.

Shirley also has a mischievous sense of humor always willing to lend an extra hand or do an extra errand. She takes time for people and has that extra antenna for people and knows when a kind word will lift someone’s day.

Her favorite Bible verse comes from Matthew 28:20 “ And lo, I am with you always even to the end of the earth. “

Shirley passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Life Care Hospital in Roseau.

Shirley is survived by Brother in law LaDell Nelson and Sister in Law, Karen Magnuson, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.  She is preceded in death by parents, Alvin and Alice Magnuson, Brother Gordon Magnuson, Sisters, Bertha Erickson, Loraine Nelson and Avis(Melroy) Wiskow.
