Sharon Lynn (Akenberger) Bitter

Sharon Lynn Bitter was born October 29, 1944 in Toledo Ohio.  She grew up on her family farm and graduated from Lake Township High School in 1962.  On February 23, 1963 she married Willis Martin Bitter.  They were blessed with three sons, Craig (Julie) Curt (Laurie) and Stephen (Sherri).  In an effort to expand their farm operation the family moved to Williams, MN in 1973.  For several years she worked in the Lake of the Woods County Recorder’s office as well as helping on the farm.  She loved being a Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma.  Some of her great grandchildren affectionately called her “G.G.” while others called her “Oma”, but each one loved her smiles, hugs, and encouragement.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Willis, their three sons and their wives.  Grandchildren include: Chelsea (Mike) Hintz, Courtney (Nick) Baade, Lindsey Bitter, Alex (Katherine) Bitter, Isaac (Emily) Bitter, and Nick Bitter.  Great grandchildren include: Lucas, Liam and Logan Hintz.  Bella, Gracie, Leniore, Nixon, Albanee, and Gloria Baade. Winston, Charlotte, and Owen Bitter.  She is also survived by sisters Jean Snyder and Lois Walters-Ebka as well as many nieces and nephews and their children. 

She is preceded in death by her most precious great-aunt Fianna (William) Scott, her parents, Dale and Martha (Bahnsen) Akenberger, Brothers:  Don and his wife Joanne (Staniszewski) Akenberger, Ronald  and his wife Peggy (Baker) Akenberger, as well as brothers-in-law Louis Snyder,  Ronald Walters, Paul Bitter, Lowell Bitter and Richard Eckermann, and nephew in law Richard Maas.

On July 23, 2023 she was promoted into the Kingdom of her Savior Jesus Christ after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sharon would like memorials to be donated to the Gideons and Samaritan's Purse.

A Funeral Service for Sharon Bitter of Baudette will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN at 4:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Elm Park Cemetery.
