Memorial services for Rodney Olson of Roseau will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019, at 4:00 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Rodney William Galyn Olson was born in Greenbush, MN on May 9, 1954, to John and Ethel (Monsrud) Olson. He attended elementary school in Wannaska and high school in Roseau, graduating in 1972. After high school he attended Alexandria Technical College, graduating with an Engineering degree. He worked at Marvin Windows and Doors in Warroad, MN for a short time before starting at Polaris Industries, where he worked for 27 years. After he retired from Polaris, he worked for Norman Construction, City of Roseau and even delivered mail out in Wannaska. Rodney enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and his dream was to have a heated shop to work in.
On May 25, 1996, Rodney and Vicky Olafson were united in marriage. They had two children – Chris and Arianna. Rodney loved hunting, fishing and his dogs. He loved spending time outdoors and he especially looked forward to deer season. His other favorite “holiday” was the 4th of July where he was like a kid in a candy store picking out his favorite fireworks. Some of Rodney's favorite weekends were spent at WHO camp with his best friends, Rick Holland and John Wilson. He loved western movies, garage sales, and feeding the birds that visited his home. He was always there for anyone that needed help, but was the stubborn type that would never ask for help. Rodney took great pride in his kids and grandkids whom he loved with his whole heart.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; many aunts and uncles, cousins; and numerous pets. He is survived by his wife, Vicky; children Chris (Jennifer) Olson and Arianna Olson; grandchildren Elsie Belle, William and Conner.
