A Funeral Service for Richard L. Wahlstrom of Roseau, MN will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 11:00AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date.

Richard Louis Wahlstrom, age 99, of Salol, Minnesota, passed away on March 16, 2026, in Roseau, Minnesota.

Richard was born on January 7, 1927, in Red Wing, Minnesota, to Norman and Blanche (Larson) Wahlstrom. He grew up with strong values of hard work and faith, attending the Methodist Church in Roseau.

On May 27, 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Eileen Johnson in Roseau. Together they built a life rooted in family, dedication, and community.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a truck driver. Following his military service, he spent many years working in a variety of roles. He farmed, worked as a truck driver hauling fuel from Roseau to Canada, drove grain truck for the National Farmers Organization (NFO), and was involved in logging where he hauled pulp. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to do whatever needed to be done.

Richard had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and simple joys in life. He enjoyed gardening and deer hunting and especially cherished his time logging with friends Duane Comstock, Lyle Roseen, and Earl Johnson. He spent many weeks in May fishing at Whitefish Bay, always on the hunt for the elusive "Walter," he was proud to have finally caught him on August 5, 2005.

He also loved playing cards and was known to be quite competitive. He enjoyed playing dice, spending time with family, watching deer, often happily going along with whatever Eileen wanted to name their favorites. Dick even learned to fly a plane-though he never obtained his license and enjoyed many memorable flights with Bill Hagen over Lake of the Woods or to Thief River.

Richard is survived by his wife, Eileen; his children, Randy (Julie) Wahlstrom and Sandra Pfeiffer; grandchildren, Sheldon Olson (Stephanie), Kristie North, Amber Kirby, Tara Pfeiffer, and Brandon Pfeiffer (fiancé Kelsey); and great-grandchildren, Raegan Olson, Makenna Hendrickson, Jaxon Hendrickson, Oakley North, Aven North, and Lana Rose Johnson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Sharon Colden and Vonnie Johnson; brother-in-law Roger (Dottie) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Norman and Blanche Wahlstrom, his brother, Duwayne Wahlstrom; and sister-in-law Shirley Wahlstrom, nephew Norman Wahlstrom, his granddaughter Katie Olson, and John North.

The family extends special thanks to all of Richard's caregivers at Hospice and Lifecare, as well as his neighbors, family, and friends for their care and support.
