Philip Kentner Obituary

A memorial gathering celebrating the life of Philip Charles Kentner will be held on Sunday March 1, 2020 at Helgesons Funeral Home in Warroad, MN from 5-7 pm with a 7:00 Military Honors by the Warroad American Legion and V.F.W.  Philip passed away on Feb. 25, 2020 in Middle River, MN at the age of 74. 

Philip Charles Kentner was born on August 7, 1945 in Hailey Idaho to Theodore and Evelyn (Crosswhite) Kentner.  He attended school and graduated in 1964 from Bend, Oregon.  In 1964, Philip enlisted in the United States Navy. His time in the Navy was spent as an engine mechanic on carrier ships. Philip was honorably discharged in 1968 with decorated medals including a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Philip worked for Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company in Bend Oregon from 1968-95. Philip moved to Warroad, MN in 1995 to be closer to family.  He worked at Marvin Windows and Doors until his retirement.

Philip enjoyed rebuilding motors, racing in the 4-wheel drive club and Bush car races. He was passionate about working on model planes, drones, rockets and remote-controlled helicopters with his grandchildren. His most recent time was spent following his family and friends on Facebook.  Everyone enjoyed knowing that he “liked” their posts and pictures.  He enjoyed spending time with family on holidays and special occasions.  He is a member of the American Legion post 444 Middle River, MN

Philip is survived by children; Cindy (Joel) Stueber of Thief River Falls, Katie (Gerald) Dale of Warroad, Gordon (Tammy) Perkins of Warroad; Grandchildren, Christina (Brad) FIsh, Cameron (Brittany) Peterson, Camerea Peterson, Brandon Perkins, Savanah Perkins, Baily, Caysen and Brayden Dale; Sisters, Theola Larson and Ethel Kentner; Brother, Lloyd (Brenda) Kentner and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob Kentner and Dale Kentner; and his twin sister, Phylis Cooper.
