Nayana Norindr passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 77 on October 28, 2024. Born on June 24, 1947, Nayana lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of many with her kindness and generosity. She courageously battled cancer for over a year and a half, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
She immigrated to the United States in the 1980s and settled in St. Petersburg, FL. After living in Florida for over a decade, she decided to make the move to Warroad, MN in 1993 with her son, Khamtoui. Nayana was one of the first few Lao residents of Warroad and helped open up many opportunities for the community.
Nayana loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends. She helped raise all of her grandchildren, as well as children in the community. When she wasn’t in the kitchen or at the temple, she also enjoyed the outdoors. She loved to garden, forage for berries, mushrooms, and asparagus, and go fishing. She was also a skilled seamstress and hair stylist, assisting in weddings and creating traditional Lao outfits.
Nayana is survived by her only son, Khamtoui Norindr. She was also a proud grandmother to three girls: Sandalee (Bryce), Salyna (Joseph), Shana (Jaeden). Her cheerful attitude and bright smile will be missed in the entire Lao community in Warroad, MN and more.
A memorial service will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 4:00PM.
Nayana will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
