A combined service will be held for Morton Nesmith and his son Robbie of Baudette, MN and Minnestrista, MN at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Tuesday, the 12th of September at 11 a.m.
Morton (Mort) Nesmith Jr. was born May 14th, 1942 and passed away September 3rd, 2023 at the age of 81. He was born to Morton and Mary Elizabeth Nesmith, in Washington, D.C., growing up there, graduating from high school, and enlisting into the U.S. Air Force. His first permanent duty assignment brought him to Baudette, MN, in 1961, a place that quickly became home after meeting and marrying Joan Goodwin. Additional Air Force assignments included short tours to Galena (Campion AFS) Alaska and Vietnam (Tan Son Nhut AB). Other tours included Tyndall (Panama City) and Grand Forks AFB, ND. During his long and decorated career performance he served in Electronics, Missile Field Site Management, and Vietnam Bomb Distribution where he earned medals with Valor designations. He served his country for over 22 years. Highly energetic, he always worked side jobs such as carpentry and building to help support his family. He started and owned several small businesses including, Mort's Boat Shop, co-owner of Lake-O-Woods Marine, and finally Mort's Heating Inc. Mort was a car enthusiast ever since he started driving, owning countless cars over the years and enjoying NASCAR. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan, and most-recently his youngest son, Robbie (Brenda) Nesmith (Minnetrista, MN). Survived by sons Stephen (LeAnn) Nesmith, and Barry (Constance) Nesmith of Baudette, and only daughter, Jaimi (Nathanael) Meyer of Fairbanks, AK; grandchildren: Corinne (Bryce) Palm; Naomi, Jonathan, Joel, Natalie, Jake, and James Meyer of Fairbanks, AK., and sister-in-law, Michelle (Leo) Paradise, Baudette, MN., niece, Shonna (Darin) Dahl and great niece and nephew, Courtney (Nash) Hanevold, and Victor Dahl. Memorials preferred to the Lake of the Woods Humane Society.
