Merlyn Haugen passed away at the Karlstad Senior Living Center on December 5,2021 at the age of 77.
Merlyn was born July 29, 1944 to Nels & Mable (Hanson) Haugen, hardy Norwegian farmers. He grew up in Ross, graduated from Roseau in 1962, where he played football for the Roseau Rams. Merlyn’s first job was driving milk truck for Land O’ Lakes. He worked for Erie Mining Company in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota for a few years before moving back to Roseau where he became an over-the-road truck driver for North Star.
Merlyn owned his own truck which he traded periodically for a new one, to avoid having mechanical problems. He did this three times and it worked! He enjoyed driving truck and was able to see all parts of our great U.S.A. Merlyn never complained about having to go to work.
Merlyn enjoyed deer hunting season, often with his nephews and buddies. He also enjoyed time on his Polaris snowmobile and ATV. He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews as a man who loved to spend time with them.
Merlyn is survived by his sister Bergliotte Connor; his brother Ardmore (Charleen); nieces Michelle (Dave) Askeland, Mary Beth (Sean) Farrow
& Brigitte (Richard) Williams, and nephews, Brian & James, plus several great and great-great nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held in May/June 2022. Details will be posted prior to the date.
