Memorie Rose (Nelson) Toft

Memorie Rose Toft of Roseau, age 97, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023 with her family by her side.

Memorie was born on August 5, 1925, daughter of late Arnold and Vivian (Jensen) Nelson. Memorie was married to her husband, Earl Toft on February 18, 1944. Side by side, she and Earl worked on their farm and Memorie was never afraid to get her hands dirty, whether that was doing chores with the animals, working in the fields, or gardening. Memorie, Earl, and their children built their life together on the farm.

Memorie combined her love of sewing and crocheting and her love for helping others to bring joy to those around her. She was a present face and heart in her community, involved with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Center helping facilitate events. Memorie spent her retirement crafting, making baby quilts and knitting hats to donate to the hospital, among many other sewing projects.

Memorie is survived by her brothers Jerry (Myrtle) Nelson and Arnold (Arlene) Nelson; sisters BelleJean (Wayne) Portinga and Syvilin (Dale) Hedlund; daughters Patricia Streiff and Layne (Norman) Kveen; son Roger Toft; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren (whom she loved to show photos of and speak about in her letters).

Memorie was preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Vivian; husband Earl; daughter-in-law JoAnn Toft; granddaughter Janelle Streiff; great-great granddaughter Alyse Jean Rose Weber; and great-great grandson Starson Newborg.

A Funeral Service for Memorie Toft will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Pine Grove Lutheran Church in Roseau at 10:00am with a visitation an hour prior. Interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery.
