A Funeral Service for Mary Jo will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00pm with a visitation an hour prior. A Visitation will be held the night before, March 31, 2022 at Helgeson Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00pm with a prayer service being at 7:00pm. Interment will be held later this spring at America Cemetery in Warroad.
Mary Jo Knutson of Warroad, MN passed away on March 24, 2022 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 68.
Mary Jo was born on December 7, 1953 in Roseau, MN to Paul and Jennie Hassel (Carlson). She attended Warroad High School and obtained college credits through Northland Community College and Northern Lights University after high school. Mary Jo married Wayne Knutson on June 3, 1972 in Roseau, MN and had two children Terri and Bruce. She worked as an inventory clerk at Marvin Windows; as a job coach at ODC in Roseau; a clerk at 7 Clans Casino; a cook at Warroad Senior Living Center while her mother-in-law, Jessie Knutson, was a resident; and part time in the deli at Doug’s Supermarket until Wayne passed on March 21, 2021, when she retired.
Mary Jo loved cooking, crocheting, sewing, crafting, canning vegetables from the garden, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at the Warroad Senior Living Center and helped with activities.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Terri LaRue (Todd Moore); Son, Bruce Knutson (Pam Faskerti); grandchildren, LaKeisha LaRue, Jayden Knutson, Justin LaRue, Brianna Moore, Alivia Faskerti, and Witney Faskerti; siblings, Shirley (Gene) Moser, Walter (Karen) Hassel, Wanda (Jim) Westman, and Skip Strom.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Knutson; parents, Paul Hassel and Jennie Strom; sister, Ann Maire Fox; and stepfather Clarence Strom.
Wayne and Mary Jo will be reunited again on their 50th wedding anniversary on June 3, 2022 at the America Cemetery.
