MaryAnn Johnson Obituary

A Funeral Service for MaryAnn E. Johnson of Roseau, MN will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 11:00AM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 5-7PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau, MN. Interment will take place at Hope Cemetery in Roseau, MN. 

MaryAnn was born October 20, 1931, along with her twin sister JoAnn to William and Ella (Johnson) Baumgartner. She attended country school north of Roseau through 6th grade, then Roseau High School where she graduated in 1949. She was active in 4-H and was a cheerleader.

On October 27, 1949 she married her high school sweetheart Lenard Johnson. They lived in Stafford Township celebrating 60 years together. During those years they developed a beautiful homestead, planting and caring for the thousands of trees they planted. Watching the wildlife which became her favorite pastime. They raised three children: Jane Anderson, Jim & Tom Johnson. MaryAnn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren: Jessica, Tim, Ryan, & Gaia. She also loved time with her great-grandchildren: Kailey, Kaia, Ashlynn, Skyler, Jonathan, Mason & Cierra.

MaryAnn was a farm wife and homemaker. She loved gardening, and growing raspberries. Many fall days she could be found in the kitchen canning and baking apple pies with Jessica, Tim and Ryan, all with the apples grown on her trees. She was also an avid knitter, winning many ribbons at the Roseau County Fair. She also loved golfing and fishing on Lake of the Woods with family and friends. During her later years she spent winters out west, visiting with the many friends they had met over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard; daughter in-law, Jilleen; brothers, Ed, Ray, Roy, Jack, Bill (Butch); sisters, JoAnn Braaten, and Clarice Doane; brothers in-law, Marvin Braaten, Herb Doane, Carl Hudson, Lee Smith, Robert Nelson; sisters in-law, Ann Baumgartner, Mabel Baumgartner, Joyce Baumgartner, Ethel Nelson.

She is survived by her children, Jane, Jim, Tom all of Roseau, MN; sisters, Lois Hudson of Arkansas, Diana Smith of Warroad; grandchildren, Jessica Anderson, Timothy Anderson, Ryan (Jenny) Anderson, Gaia Sanderhoff, Daniel Timko. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Kailey, Kaia, Ashlynn Omdahl, Skyler Hage, Jonathan, Mason, Cierra Anderson along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Blessed be our memories of MaryAnn.
