Mary Agnes Krzoska was born on July 9, 1925, in Beaver Township to Regina Secraw and Michael Krzoska. She was the oldest of 4 children. Mary attended school at Falun District 112. At 19, she started working for Emma Johnson, mother of her first husband.

On January 17, 1949, Mary married Oscar J. Johnson at Bethel Covenant Church in rural Falun. To this marriage were born 2 boys and 2 girls. In June of 1949, Mary, Oscar, and Oscar’s 2 sisters and families went to South Dakota to visit relatives and then on to Yellowstone. It was a fun trip for all. Oscar passed away on October 18, 1968.

On December 4, 1971, she married Paul Lennart Mattson at the old Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau. Mary and Lennart enjoyed many trips to Wisconsin to see her relatives. Mary and Lennart loved to go dancing and spent many a Saturday night dancing to old time music. Lennart passed away on September 19, 1991.

Mary loved to bake. Her specialty was buns. She always would have homemade goodies to serve with her coffee. She loved having company at her house.

In the summer Mary always had a big garden and a raspberry patch which she picked and sold for 25 cents a quart. Many days before the fair found the Johnson family out picking blueberries for money for the fair. She always packed a lunch so nobody starved while picking blueberries! She was a very hard worker, being homemaker, babysitter, and raising 4 children.

Mary passed away on December 11, 2020 at the age of 95 years 5 months and 2 days. Mary is survived by her son, Glen (Glenda) of Roseau, daughters Gail of rural Roseau and Amy (Sam) Christenson of Bemidji, one granddaughter Danica (Steve) Gigl of Crystal, and three grandsons Flann Christenson of Blackduck, Gavin (Samantha) Johnson of West Concord, and Clark (Naomi) Christenson of Duluth. She also leaves behind two great granddaughters, Maeve and Elspeth Johnson, and three great grandsons, Andrew, Kellan, and Soren Gigl. Also, surviving are her sister Mildred Brosdahl of Greenbush and brother Eugene (Martha) Krzoska of rural Roseau and sister-in-law Martha Krzoska of rural Roseau. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her youngest son Jon, her parents, brother William and husbands Oscar and Lennart.
