Mary Louise (Martin) Stoll

July 9, 1932 ~ August 31, 2023 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Obituary

Mary Louise (Martin) Stoll, daughter of Jason and Gladys (Byers) Martin, was born on July 9, 1932, in Duchess, Alberta, Canada, the 4th of 12 children. Soon after, the family moved to Sheldon, WI where she grew up on the family dairy farm. On June 15, 1951, Mary was united in marriage to Paul Stoll in Sheldon, where they lived for three years. Then they moved to Strawberry Lake, MN where they resided for two years.

In 1958, Paul & Mary were obedient to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and moved to Flag Island, MN to share the Gospel of Salvation through Jesus Christ to the people of that area. In 1972 they began working at the Angle Inlet Church where they served until 2006. In later years they lived in the Warroad area.

Mary had a real servant’s heart and was known for her hospitality. She somehow always had enough food for anyone who showed up at their door at mealtime. To help make ends meet, she took in sewing jobs and also cleaned houses for people. She loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers, and grew the most delicious raspberries!

After the death of her husband, her son, Chad, lived with her until they both moved to Indiana to live with her daughter, Gladys and Galen Bontrager. Because of dementia problems, she moved to Waterford Crossing in Goshen for her last two and a half years. Mary was such an inspiration to everyone, both staff and residents, as she was always singing or whistling gospel songs and praising the Lord. Mary passed away on August 31, 2023 at Waterford Crossing. She was 91 years old.

Mary is survived by her children: Alvin (Rita) Stoll of Glen Flora, WI; Gladys (Galen) Bontrager of Goshen, IN; Jenny (Gregory) Gilbert of Warroad; Lili (Brian) Sioui of Angle Inlet; Lois Stoll of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Chad Stoll of Goshen, IN; 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; siblings: Grace Shult, Leona Skrivseth, Earl (Lisa) Martin, Alta (Larry) Peterson and Nelson (Rhoda) Martin.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; siblings: Lester, Ray, Lloyd and Marlin Martin, Alma Eby, and Martha Peggar; daughter: Judy Paishk; sons-in-law: Wayne Smoker and Joe Paishk; grandchildren: Monty Dahlberg and Nathan Gilbert.

Funeral Services for Mary will be September 8, 11 am, 2023 at the Warroad Baptist Church followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be a couple hours prior to the service.
