Marlene H. Budd

A Funeral Service for Marlene H. Budd of Roseau, MN will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 4:00PM at Rose Free Lutheran Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Moe-Rose Cemetery in Roseau. 

Marlene Helen Budd was born on September 30, 1932 to Henry and Amanda (Holland) Peterson. Marlene and Laverne Budd were united in marriage on August 19, 1950 at the Rose Church. They lived and raised their four daughters on their dairy farm 3 miles west of Roseau. Which happened to be the same house she grew up in and lived in until her passing.

Marlene passed away peacefully early Monday morning, June 29, 2026 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau.
Over the years besides being a farmers wife, raising four daughters and all the things that comes with those titles, she worked out of the home. She worked at Northern Upholstery from the start of Polaris to around 1975-1976 when she started working at Mattson Pharmacy where she remained working until her retirement.

Marlene was a good cook and I remember, just about every Saturday when us kids were growing up, she would bake bread and fresh cinnamon rolls. Also her cooking has always been a hit from being a great hostess for many on Christmas Eve, to every Sunday after church she had dinner ready and waiting for all us kids and our families. We used to tease her it being the best restaurant around and it truly was. She always, always had dessert never the same dessert twice in a row. She loved trying new recipes. She was the Dessert Queen, for sure. She kept that Sunday restaurant of hers open until just a couple years ago when she finally slowed down enough to take a break from cooking those big meals.

Marlene and Laverne both enjoyed going to the horse races and watching their horses run and even better when they won.

Marlene is survived by her four daughters; Monica (Wayne) Ziska, Roseau; Debbie (Jeff) Wittak, Badger; Jodi Ziska, Roseau and Lori (Brian) Nelson, Roseau. 7 Grandchildren: Shane (Melanie) Ziska, Wannaska; Tabitha (Lonnie) Thompson, Donaldson; Tanya (Hakan) Hultman, Altersbuk, Sweden; Alison (Garrett) Tisdell, Laporte; Ashley Sorrels ( Chance Kline) Roseau; Kelly (Chris) Olson, Roseau and Amanda Wittak (Ryan Scott), Roseau. Along with these she is survived by 20 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, nephew: Darryl (Mary Jo) Stromberg, Golden Valley & nieces: Cheryl (Doug) Ruley, Rancho Murieta, CA., Cindy Anderson, Phoenix, AZ. And several cousins.

Marlene is proceeded in death by her husband: Laverne Budd, parents: Henry & Amanda Peterson, parents-in-law: Dewey & Tillie Budd. Sisters: Irene Germond, Ruby Peterson & Barbara Zak. Brother-in-law: Donald Zak. Son-in-law: Jerome Ziska and Granddaughter: Shelly (Ziska) Dokken.
