The family of Marlene Bishop were saddened when she passed away after a very brief, difficult illness on Thursday, November 20th, 2025 at the age of 80. Our mom and grandma was surrounded by many of her loved ones as she made her way into God’s hands. We are at peace knowing she is reunited with her husband, Jim and their son Ron.
Marlene was born at her childhood home in Stephen, MN on September 1st, 1945 to John and Elizabeth Woinarowicz. She attended school in rural Stephen, MN. When she was 12, her family moved to Euclid, MN. This is where Marlene attended school and later graduated from Crookston High School.
In 1964, Marlene and Jim met at a dance hall. Neither of them could have guessed that one ordinary night in a crowded dance hall would become the beginning of everything. They were married on September 11, 1965. Jim and Marlene had three children, Ronald, Rhonda, and Rachel, who they were so proud to tell others about.
Marlene was a waitress/cook at LaFond’s Café in Argyle, MN for many years. While living in Argyle and working at LaFond’s, she made a lot of lifelong friends. This is where her love of baking and cooking began. She enjoyed the people she would see on a daily basis at the café. “Marlene was a hard-working and personable friend,” was a comment many would say about her years working at LaFond’s.
After Ron’s graduation from high school, Jim and Marlene decided to move to Warroad, MN with Rhonda and Rachel. Marlene was soon employed by Marvin Windows and Doors. She worked for over 25 years at Marvin. She loved her job and the many people she worked with. People often said she was an efficient and enthusiastic worker, who was very friendly, upbeat, and ready to work! Marlene was a dedicated individual whose day began before dawn and ended long after the sun had set. A testament to a true, tireless work ethic!
One of Marlene’s favorite past times has always been taking care of her house, flowerbeds, and her yard. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandkids meant so much to her as she would often cook for them during school lunch breaks or supper. She loved to call Rhonda and Rachel multiple times a day to talk about the weather, the news, and to simply just say hi. Marlene was a devoted Catholic and loved her church time. Her designated spot in “her pew” at St. Mary’s will be a lonesome one. As a family friend recently said, “heaven better be ready for her. Hopefully there is no dust in heaven because Marlene won’t have any of that.”
Marlene will be missed by her two daughters: Rhonda (Jason) Furuseth and Rachel (Collin) Grawberger, her grandchildren: Shanyce (Kory) Stickler, Dayton Bishop, Jaret, Tucker, and Kerigan Furuseth, Liv and Taner Anderson, Levi Grawberger, and her great-grandson Jennings Bishop, along with six sisters, five brothers, daughter-in-law Connie Bishop, and many sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Woinarowicz, her husband of 60 years, Jim and their son, Ron, her mother and father-in-law Alvina and Floyd Bishop, along with many sisters, brothers, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws.
