A memorial service for Mable N. Tilton of Warroad, MN will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Warroad Senior Living Center Chapel in Warroad, MN at 1:00PM. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date.
Mable Tilton passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at the Warroad Living Center in Warroad MN,
Mable N. Nelson was born on August 5th, 1925, in Saratoga Township, in Wynona County Mn to Walter and Lillian Nelson. She was the youngest of Walter and Lillian’s nine children: Glen, Bertha, Pearl, Lonetta, Archie, Edgar, Dorthy, Donald, and Mable.
Mable’s mother, Lillian, later remarried Luther Slawson. Lillian and Luther’s blended family boasted fifteen children together until Mable’s little sister, Rosella was born in 1931, making sixteen. Mable’s six stepbrothers and sister were Donald, Berle, Vernon, Art, Lola, and Lyle.
Mable’s father, Walter, was also remarried to Emma Fuchs. Walter and Emma had five children: David, Gerald, Van, Grace, and Ted. These five gave Mable a total of 20 siblings growing up.
Lillian and Luther Slawson moved their family from the Rochester area to Warroad Mn. 1931 when Mable was six years old. This is where she would later meet Elmer Tilton. Elmer and Mable were married on November 9th, 1941.
Elmer and Mable raised four children: Darlene, Valerie, Pamalyn, and Rodney in the town of Warroad and on their farm north of Warroad. They farmed grain and cattle. Mable also loved to garden and do crafts. Elmer and Mable loved to dance and were the envy of all at barn dances and kitchen capers.
In the late 1990s Elmer and Mable moved from their farm into Warroad and lived at Young Manor. They lived there together until Elmer passed away in 2003. Mable then moved to the Warroad Living Center in 2010 where she lived until she passed away.
Mable was a Rebekah in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and an avid bowler. She was active in her church and enjoyed putting together puzzles, online shopping, going to the casino, and spending time with her family.
Mable Tilton was known for her kind heart and her smile. She loved to hold your hand when she spoke to you. Mable was very proud of the fact that she had multiple 5 generations of family.
Mable was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Tilton, her parents; Walter (Emma) Nelson and Lillian (Luther) Slawson, many of her siblings, two sons-in-law; Phillip Otto and Dale Buley, and many nieces and nephews.
Mable is survived by her four children; Darlene (Harvey) Cole, Valerie Otto, Pamalyn Buley, and Rodney (Jan) Tilton, her eight grandchildren; Craig (Vicky) Cole, Katrine Bender, Layna Cole (Brian Jambor), Leah Otto-Rehm (John Rehm) , David Otto, Dawn (Chris) Knutson, Traci (Brian) Ketring, LeEarl (Karrie) Rugland, her 25 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, brothers; Lyle Slawson, Gerald Nelson, Ted Nelson, and Van Nelson. She is also survived by a special niece Shirley Drown and other nieces and nephews.
