LaRae E. Devault

A service to celebrate LaRae's life will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Baudette, Minnesota, at 11 AM, with visitation starting one hour earlier. Burial will be at Elm Park Cemetery followed by lunch at the church.

LaRae Eileen (Nichols) DeVault passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 75. She was born on September 1, 1949, in Baudette, Minnesota, to Elziar and Verna (Johnson) Nichols. She graduated from Baudette High School in 1967 and dedicated herself to being a loving housewife and mother, while also working part-time as a lookout for the DNR during many fire seasons.

LaRae married Bobby Aery on October 28, 1967. Together they had a son, Jamie Allan Aery, who sadly passed away at birth. In 1979 they adopted a son, Joshua Edward Aery. On November 2, 1992, she married the love of her life James (Jim) DeVault, who brought three stepsons—Jimmy, Jon, and Eric—into her life.

LaRae particularly loved creating birch bark crafts and enjoyed attending craft fairs with Jim. She also had a love for baking, sharing many delicious treats with friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Jim; son Josh (Tara) Aery; stepsons Jimmy, Jon (Joy), and Eric DeVault; grandkids Jourdan, Aspen, Ashton, Rian, and Chevelle Aery, Kyle Leslie and Sheila Biniishii; great-grandchildren Lincoln Stone and Bellamy Krause; her brother Lonnie (Deb) Nichols, sister-in-law Linda; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elziar and Verna; her son Jamie; and brothers Loren and LeRoy.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Lakewood Care Center for their compassionate care during LaRae’s final year.
