Kent McFarlane Obituary

A Funeral Service for Kent McFarlane will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10 am at  Warroad Baptist Church.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.

Kent Miles McFarlane was born in Baudette, Minnesota on September 3,1954, to parents Donald and Carol (Bruber) McFarlane. He grew up in Pitt, Minnesota and attended the Pitt and Baudette school systems. He then joined the United States Marines Corps in 1973 and served for four years, traveling to Panama, Puerto Rico, Japan and South Korea during his service to our country. After completing his service, he moved to Warroad and began working at Marvin Windows.

He met Brenda Remme at that time, and they married in November 1980. They went on to have 3 children: Joel (Joe), Jacqueline (Jackie) and Katlyn (Katie). Kent loved his family more than anything. Raising his children with his wife was the joy of his life. He loved following them in all of their many activities. Years ago, he enjoyed watching the Warroad Lakers. He and Brenda were avid Minnesota Wild fans in his later years.

In addition to working at Marvin Windows in two stints throughout his career, he also was self-employed for many years. He and Brenda owned Countryside Court and established Liberty Park in 1986. He was also manager/salesman at Mesabi Homes for twenty years. Kent was also an active member of Warroad Baptist Church for three decades serving as a church elder and church chairman for many years. He was a man of deep faith and wanted to share his love of Jesus with everyone he knew. He had many friends throughout the community over the years through church, work, his children’s sports and general community involvement. In his retirement years, he especially enjoyed bonfires, camping, fishing and playing golf with his brothers, Craig and Reed.

Kent passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on June 20, 2024 after a brief, hard-fought battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Brenda of 43 years; son, Joe (Kimberly) McFarlane of Elko New Market, MN; daughters, Jackie (Reid) Merriman of Warroad, MN, and Katie (Tyler) Rother of Warroad, MN. His beloved grandchildren: Brody, Clara, Charlie, Graham, Evie, Mollie and Emmie; siblings, Sherry (DeWayne) Kliewer of West Linn, OR, Lane (Ron) Heagy of Cathlamet, WA, Craig (Kim) McFarlane of Warroad, MN, Reed (Blanche) McFarlane of Port Aransas, Texas, and Bradley McFarlane of Cass Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Roberta Remme; sister-in-law, Mary Solberg of Greenbush, MN as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Carol; brothers Carter and Hugh; three infant sisters, Donetta, Linnea and Launa.

We would like to extend a special thank you to family, friends, the Grand Forks VA and Roseau County Hospice (Sarah, Amy and Joanna) for their support during this difficult time.
