Karen R. Halverson, 70, of  Roseau, MN passed away at LifeCare Roseau Manor on March 4, 2026.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau at 11:00 am with visitation one hr prior at the church.  On Thursday, March 12, 2026 a visitation will be held at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau from 6-8 pm with a 7 pm Prayer Service.

Karen Rochelle (Eliason) Halverson entered eternal rest with our Savior on March 4th, 2026.

Karen was born in Montevideo, MN on May 15, 1955, the third of four children born to Raymond and Kathleen Eliason. She grew up in Milan, MN and had many happy memories of her childhood there. Karen was baptized and confirmed in the faith at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. She lived in Jackson, MN with her family for two years, and then came to Roseau, MN for her senior year of high school when her family once again moved. It was there that she would form lifelong friendships, fall in love, and raise her family.

After graduating from Roseau High School in 1973, Karen attended Northland Technical College in Thief River Falls followed by further education to obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work from Minnesota State University in Moorhead. Her first position took her to Red Lake County, and she eventually worked for Roseau County as well.

She met (and was strongly pursued by) Gary Halverson of Roseau. Those who knew Gary know of the stories! They were married on April 6th, 1985. To this union, three children were born. Together, there were many road trips for the kids’ activities, holiday gatherings with family, and game nights.

Karen’s social work career led her to LifeCare Roseau Manor, where she enjoyed more than 26 years of meaningful work helping care for the residents. She truly loved this vocation and felt called to help others.

Karen was always up for an adventure. She greatly enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with friends and family. Music was a true source of joy for her and she loved attending concerts. She was notoriously excellent at any type of trivia and had a sharp memory for detail. Her dry sense of humor was well known by those closest to her. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, meeting friends for coffee, and a successful shopping trip.

She was a wonderful mom, supportive of her children’s endeavors and encouraging their ambitions. She absolutely cherished the opportunity to be a grandma and was adored by her grandchildren; they have precious memories of Grandma Karen reading them endless books and being together.

Karen is survived by her children, Amanda (Randy) Johnson of West Fargo ND, Andy (Hannah Pearson) and Alex Halverson of Roseau, MN, grandchildren Ava (11), Brayden (9) and Ella (6) Johnson, siblings Bruce Eliason of Storden, MN, Bonnie (Don) Nelson of Mound, MN, Craig (Sandy) Eliason of Andover, MN, sister-in-law Nancy (Peter) Thiessen of La Broquerie Manitoba, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, parents Raymond and Kathleen (Brown) Eliason, and in-laws Gordon and Norma (Goos) Halverson.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to all who cared for her in her challenging final years. We are so thankful for the excellent care she received from LifeCare Roseau Manor and Hospice. We are grateful for the support of Home Health and Meals on Wheels that allowed her to stay in her home as long as possible.

To Mom’s Coffee Crew: Thank you for loving our mom and spending time with her until the end. We will hold you in our hearts forever. You have truly defined the deepest meaning of friendship.

May God Bless the Memory of Karen Halverson.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials can be made to LifeCare Roseau Manor in honor of both mom’s career and the care she received.
