Judith Vandella Fugleberg was born on October 13, 1925, to Jonas Erhard Sjoberg and Judith Florinda (Lundgren) Sjoberg in Roseau, Minnesota. Judith graduated from Roseau High School and worked for her parents at the Eatmore Café and at the Hotel Hagenah they owned in town. She married Norris Fugleberg on May 6, 1945.

When Judith moved to the farm after marriage to be with Norris she said she felt like she was home, because now she was with her husband.  Nevertheless having been a city girl, moving to the farm was a big adjustment.  But she gladly settled in and enjoyed being a homemaker.  She also enjoyed outside activities like mowing the lawn, growing flowers in her flower garden, picking berries, and painting when any of the buildings or fences needed paint.  She took care of many things, cooking, baking, washing clothes with the old Maytag, powered by a noisy gasoline engine until they got electricity, and taking care of her and Norris’ six children. She also tended the vegetable garden and did much canning and freezing of food for use later.  Back in those days many women didn’t drive vehicles, but she taught herself to drive by driving in circles around the house.  Embroidering was a hobby she enjoyed when she had time, and she loved writing poetry, both for her own enjoyment and also for special occasions. Often people would ask her to write a poem for someone’s anniversary, or a special church occasion or other event, and she did. Judith was a very social person and cherished her time conversing with family and many friends. At a young age Judith’s spiritual life was greatly influenced by her grandmother who taught her about the Lord. From her grandmother she learned the song, “Oh Happy Day… when Jesus washed my sins away,” and it stuck with her.  She loved the Lord, and in addition to bringing up her own family in the faith, volunteered many hours at the church leading the youth group with her husband, teaching weekly release time classes for many years, and was an active participant in the Ladies Aid group where she held a variety of positions over the years.

Judith is preceded in death by her husband, Norris Fugleberg; son, Thomas Fugleberg; sisters, Dorryce and Dorryne; her parents; and a son in-law, Tom Johnson.

She is survived by her children, Vonne (Mike) Coyle, Barbara (Darwin) Olson, James (Linda) Fugleberg, Carol (Dean) Griffith, David (Deb) Fugleberg, and Daughter-in-law Julie Fugleberg; also by 26 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
