Obituary

A Funeral Service for John D. Foster will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

John Daniel Foster was born on November 18th, 1962 to parents Daniel and Joyce (Sawyer) Foster in Greenbush, Minnesota. He was the eldest sibling to Jacqueline Foster Ferraro and Jamie Foster. John graduated from Greenbush High School in 1981. He then went on to study Carpentry at the AVTI in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

First, John was very hardworking, a talented craftsman, conscientious, always ready to help with things needing to be done. Likewise, John was witty with a clever sense of humor, a kind-hearted, generous soul, using a common-sense approach. He was in-tune with nature and loved the outdoors and wildlife; in many ways John was “The Grizzly Adams of Greenbush.”

Also, John enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends, family, and cousins in Juneberry and around his home property.  He was an avid sports fan, watching the Minnesota Vikings football, as well as the Minnesota North Stars and The Wild hockey teams. Furthermore, he truly enjoyed western movies like “Dances with Wolves” and the TV series “Gunsmoke”.

In addition, John was a superior cabinet maker/carpenter. He worked for many years at Woodland Industries in Greenbush, which included building several churches in the area. He most recently worked for Troy Foss in Greenbush, constructing Outdoor Recreational Vehicles/Fish Houses.

Lastly, John was beloved by his friends and family; we are extremely fortunate and grateful to have had him in our lives, for as long as we did.  We will miss him immensely.

John is survived by his family including: brother-in-law Ric Ferraro, aunts and uncles: Tomi and Constance “Connie” Sawyer, Marlys Sime, Beverly and Bob Bauer, Forrest Foster, Linda Waldorf, Paulette and Kermit Moe, and Milan and Cheryl Foster, as well as numerous cousins.

John was preceded in death by his father Daniel Foster, his grandparents: Ernest and Evangeline Foster and Robert and Geraldine “Jerry” Sawyer, uncles: Mark and Stephen Foster, Jack McCoy, Stan Sime, and Jim Waldorf, aunts: Joan Foster (infancy), Claudette McCoy, Judy (Dave) Mineheine, Theresa Foster, and Marge Foster, as well as cousins: Jeanette Foster, and Tim McCoy.
