Jessie Mary Sawchuk Nielsen left her earthly domain peacefully on the afternoon of May 15, 2021, from the Lakewood Health Center at the glorious age of 97.
Jessie was born on April 30,1924, in Rainy River, Ontario. She lived with her family on a small farm four miles east of Rainy River on the banks of the beautiful Rainy River. Jessie helped on the family farm and attended school in Rainy River. After graduating from high school, she attended business school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Returning to the family farm, she met and married Norman Harry Nielsen on Dec. 7, 1946. Jessie and Norman lived in Baudette, MN, for the remainder of their lives. Jessie worked at Ben Franklin, as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Lorebecki and at Solvay Pharmaceuticals. She was actively involved in the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary and the Sacred Heart Ladies Aide.
Jessie was a devout, Christian woman who loved her church; she also loved her gardens, the outdoors, and especially the family cabin near Morson, Ontario. She enjoyed time with the grandchildren, grand dogs, and entertaining and visiting with her family, relatives and friends. Jessie was a very loving, caring, compassionate caretaker who was always worried about others and not herself. She enjoyed watching local high school and Minnesota college and professional sports’ teams and went to bed when the games were over.
Jessie is survived by her son Bill (Sherry) Nielsen of Sauk Rapids, MN; her daughter and primary caregiver Kathy Nielsen Caldwell of Baudette, MN; grandchildren: William (Caroline) Nielsen of Highlands Ranch, CO; Brent (Elisa) Nielsen of Sauk Rapids, MN; Tony (Gabrielle) Caldwell of Nashville, TN; and great grandchildren William, Sophia, triplets: Reese, Kiley Belle, Blake, and most recent granddaughter, Miela, as well as the many nephews and nieces that were so special to her.
Jessie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Norman (2009); parents Harry Sawchuk and Mary Rowluk Sawchuk; sister Frances Sawchuk Amundsen; brother Harry Sawchuk; infant brother Joseph Sawchuk; and infant sister Annie Sawchuk. Jessie was the last of her generation of the Sawchuk’s.
Jessie was cremated according to her wishes followed by a private family Celebration of Life Service held at Sacred Heart Church. A brief celebratory farewell will occur at the interment at Elm Park Cemetery in Baudette.
