Obituary

Jeanne M. Holland Erickson, passed away on June 1, 2023 at Supportive Living in the Warroad Senior Living Center.  Jeanne was born on November 17, 1921 and was the second of four children born to Edward and Henrietta of Warroad.  Jeanne was active in WHS activities, including playing French horn in band, basketball, participating in operettas, singing in the high school choir, and took swimming lessons.  She also was the salutatorian of her 1939 class.  From the time she was a young child, Jeanne knew she wanted to be a pharmacist- just like her father.

After high school graduation, Jeanne enrolled at Macalester College and then transferred one year later to the U of M pharmacy program.  She played her French horn in the Gopher marching band.  Jeanne married Martin Erickson in 1941.  They moved to Warroad, and soon after,  Martin was called to active Naval duty on board ship.  Jeanne completed her pharmacy degree in 1946, with only 3 men and herself- the smallest pharmacy class in their history.

Jeanne and Martin returned to Warroad, where their three children were born.  They moved to Bloomington briefly and then Hamburg, NY where Jeanne was active in community work, including chairwoman of the Cancer Crusade, Girl Scout Leader and taught Sunday School.  After returning to MN, Jeanne was instrumental in developing and managing the pharmacy for five Heritage Rembrandt Nursing Homes in Edina, MN for six years.  Upon Martin’s retirement, the couple returned to Warroad in 1975.  They owned and operated Heritage Pharmacy and Heritage Jewelry until she retired at age 89.

Jeanne was a member of the American and MN Pharmacist Associations and the U of M Century Mortar Club. She also was an active member of the Eastern Star and Warroad Chamber of Commerce.  In 2004 the Warroad Alumni Association recognized Jeanne as an Outstanding Alumnus. Like her parents before her, Jeanne was an enthusiastic supporter of all educational, athletic, and civic activities.

Jeanne is survived by her three children, Martin A. Marstellar Erickson III (David), Lynn (Tom) Keller, and Kirk (Deb) Erickson.  She is further survived by six grandchildren: Jen (Andy), Peter (Shelley), Emily, Dr. James (Steph), Dr. Michelle (Joel) and Justin.  Jeanne is also survived by six great grandchildren:  Reanna (Brett), Parker, Hailey, Elliot, Easton and Alexi.

Proceeding Jeanne in death are husband Martin Jr., parents Ed and Etta Holland, her three siblings:  Dorothy Boler, James Holland, and Patricia Stotts and her grandson Martin Erickson IV.

A celebration of Jeanne’s life will take place at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad on July 18th at 2 pm.  The family requests memorials in Jeanne’s name be given to Warroad Youth Hockey.  Interment was held at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis on June 10, 2023.
