James Joseph Ney was born April 1, 1930 in Bad Axe, Michigan to George and Susan Ney. He was the fourth born of eight children. After graduating high school, Jim enlisted in the Air Force and served as a radar technician on Okinawa during the Korean War. He eventually transferred to the Baudette Air Force base where he completed his service to his country. He married local girl Darlene Adrian and they had four children. Jim and Darlene were married for 54 years before his passing. Jim was a fishing guide for Adrian’s Resort for many years and also enjoyed farming. In his later years he could often be found tilling the dirt on his John Deere tractor.

Jim enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was especially fond of walleye fishing and catching crappies off the dock. He has many trophy mounts adorning the walls of Adrian’s Resort. Jim was also a regular at the golf course and bowling alley where he excelled at both. He loved to talk about his younger days playing baseball with his cousin Pete. The knuckleball was his favorite pitch and he often went into his pitcher’s wind-up in the kitchen. He enjoyed his weekly Whist game with family and friends until his recent hospitalization.

Jim is survived by his wife Darlene, his children Jim, Jr. (Susan), Susie “Tootsie”, Brian (Rylee) and Cory (Nicole). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Alyssa, Haley (Brandon), Rebecca (Shae), Emily, Molly, Addison, Odin, Andy, and two great-grandchildren, Easton and Henley. Jim is also survived by his brother Donald “Butch” (Pat) Ney, and sisters Donna (Gerald) Schenk and Sharon Ney. He is also survived by his sisters in law Marlene Adrian, Faye (Dan) Coughlin, Judy (David) Duitscher, Sharon Opp and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Eileen Fabyan and Joyce Ney, and brothers George, Jr. and Michael Ney.

Jim was a long-time member of the Baudette American Legion, VFW Post No. 723 and the Moose Lodge. Jim passed away on Sunday March 1, 2020 at the age of 89 after a short hospitalization in Baudette.
