James M. Bishop, 93, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025. He was born on July 17, 1932, in Agate, North Dakota, at his grandparents’ farm, to Jacob and Theo (Hookland) Bishop.
In January 1955, Jim proudly entered the United States Army, serving his country until his honorable discharge in January 1957. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career as a U.S. Customs and Border Agent. Respected for his professionalism, fairness, and dedication, Jim served faithfully for 34 years before retiring in September 1992.
On February 18, 1961, Jim married the love of his life, Eileen J. Miketey, in Koochiching County, Minnesota. They shared more than six decades of marriage, creating a home filled with love and resilience. Together, they had one son, Charlie.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen; his son, Charlie; his parents, Jacob and Theo Bishop; his sister, Belle Good; and his brother, Jerry Bishop.
He is survived by his sister, Jacqueline Cook; many special nieces and nephews; and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.
In retirement, Jim enjoyed flying RC model airplanes, attending gun shows, and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion to his loved ones, his strong sense of duty, and his zest for life’s simple pleasures.
A memorial service will be held in Bisbee, North Dakota, at a later date and time.
