Jack Steinhauer Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Jack Steinhauer will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Woodland Bible Church in Warroad at 11:00am with a visitation an hour prior.

Jack Steinhauer of Warroad passed away on February 18, 2023 at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN.  He was 88 years old.

Jack Dean Steinhauer was born April 21, 1934 to Jack D. and Doris Steinhauer in Fresno, CA. The little family later moved to Roseburg, OR to be close to Doris’ family. Jack‘s dad went on to Seattle to search for work.

Jack was always a hard worker and enjoyed work from the time he was young. In his preteens he spent two summers working on a farm outside of Roseburg. There he learned the ethics and benefits of hard work. He loved and respected his mother very much; therefore he saved all of the wages he made the first summer to buy his mother a vacuum cleaner.

When Jack was eleven or twelve he got the opportunity to attend a summer church camp. When he returned home he could not wait to tell his mother all about his experience that he had gotten to know Jesus and that he had been baptized and now was saved. The seed of faith had been planted and he always longed for that intense joy again. Through his wife and kids and their families’ worship and bible study we know that he once again found that joy.

Jack had many jobs throughout his life. His long-term career was at B & J Industrial Supply. He started in the warehouse but soon moved into the office as a phone salesman, then as an outside salesman. He spent a few years as the general manager but he much preferred sales. He retired in 2000 after a more than 32-year career.

Jack loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and gardening.

Jack had three children with his first wife, Hallie – Chris, Durk and Tina. With his second wife, Gayle, he had three children – Kim, Debra and Robert. He and Gloria were married on September 14, 2002.

After his retirement he and Gloria moved to Warroad, MN to be near her sister, Eilene, and Jack’s hunting buddies. They bought a house surrounded by trees that made Jack feel like he had brought a little of the Northwest with him. He spent much of his time grooming the property and building additions to the house.

In his spare time while Gloria was still working he began driving the van for the Warroad Senior Living Center, transporting residents to various medical appointments. He loved doing this, he loved the people he met, and loved to hear their stories and share his own. He drove until hit with COVID in November, 2021. He really wanted to continue, but his health never improved enough to let him drive again.

Jack attended Woodland Bible Church and really felt that he had finally found his church home.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Doris; and sister, RoseMarie. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Chris, Durk, Tina, Kim, Debra and Robert; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and nephew, Mark.
