Jack Lund Obituary

Jack Lund, 81, of Roseau, MN passed away peacefully on November 30th, surrounded by his family. Born on December 18, 1942, at Chilgren's Hospital in Roseau, MN, Jack’s life was marked by hard work, service to his country, and an unwavering love for his family.

Jack was a  lifelong resident of Roseau, Minnesota. He was born to Palmer and Anne (Hagen) Lund on December 18, 1942. Jack grew up on the family farm, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for farming. After graduating from high school in 1961, Jack enlisted in the United States Army, where he served proudly as a paratrooper. Although short, his time in the Army left a lasting impact on him, shaping much of his character and his sense of discipline and service. Those that knew him will always remember his phrase “There are two things that come out of the sky, bird poop and paratroopers and I are one.”

After his time in the military, Jack returned to his roots and married the love of his life, Sharon (Brandt) Lund and together they welcomed four children. Their marriage of 58+ years was a testament to their strong bond, deep affection, and shared memories. In 1973, Jack and Sharon purchased their farm in Malung, built a home and raised their children. Jack was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, often sharing stories, offering advice, supporting his children and grandchildren in numerous events and simply enjoyed time with those he loved.

Jack was well known in the Roseau/Malung community as both a farmer and a skilled painter. His talent for transforming a home with a fresh coat of paint was something he took great pride in, and his craftsmanship was evident in every job he completed. Jack’s work ethic was legendary—swinging the brush, he approached each job with care, precision, and a passion for excellence.

Jack had a passion for the outdoors and a special love for animals.  For years he raised cows and chickens. He built a man-made duck pond that became a sanctuary for turtles, fish, geese, and deer.  He often gave wildlife names and claimed they were his friends. “I’m going to talk to my  cows”, was a common phrase he used when heading outside.

Jack will forever be known for his humor, quick wit, infectious smile and ability to light up any room he entered. He loved to make people laugh, especially children. He often made  nicknames for them, like “meatball 1 and 2 and George”.  His funny and, often, unfiltered words would keep you in suspense of what was to come out next, put a smile on your face or fill you with laughter.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children, Sheri Amundson of Park Rapids, Teresa (Brent) Colligan of Bemidji, Kevin (Kristen) Lund of Park Rapids, and Corry (Teresa) Lund of Brainerd; grandchildren, Kyle and Levi Amundson, Peter (Annie), Paul (Chantal), Jonathan, Brylee, and Addie Colligan, Jaxson, Macey, Theo, Brody and Gus Lund; siblings Tom Lund, Richard (Lynda) Lund of Roseau, and Gudrun (DuDu) Johnson of Des Moines,IA; sisters in law Judy Lund of Roseau, Beda Sander and Marilyn Rugland of Minneapolis and brother in law Dale Wold of Moorhead; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Anne Lund; brothers Kenny and Bob Lund; mother and father in law, Albert and Evelyn Brandt; brothers and sisters in law Jim Johnson, Curtis (Helen) Brandt, Clayton (Mavis) Brandt, Edson (Marlys) Brandt, Deloris (Kenny) Benson, Fred Sander, and Steve Rugland.
