Jack Gene Green passed away peacefully on April 22, 2021 at his home in Warroad, MN surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old.
Jack was born on September 28, 1941 in Munising, MI to Viola (Brill) and Frank Green. He was the third of eight children.
Jack said his family was poor but like most back in those days they never considered themselves poor. They farmed, hunted and fished. One of his fishing holes was Lake Michigan!
Jack entered the Army in 1962 and it became his life for 20 years. While in the Army his duties included military police, prison guard and game warden. He served in Korea, Germany and Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star. For an old country boy I’d say game warden was the job he enjoyed the most.
He met Rose Jaros in Fort Leavenworth, KS, where they were both stationed. They married on November 7, 1966. That union lasted 54 years. Praise God! They had four children - Jennifer Margaret, born in Fort Leavenworth, KS; James, born in Fort Knox, KY; Rebecca Jo and Jessica Marie, both born in Fort Gordon, GA.
Upon retiring from the Army the family settled in Augusta, GA where Jack supervised a chain of convenience stores for Ye Olde Grocery. They lived there until James’ death in 1992. Upon the death of his son, Jack moved the family to Warroad where he was employed by Marvin Windows for 15 years.
Being an avid hunter and fisherman all his life, Warroad was the perfect place. Besides hunting and fishing he enjoyed gardening – big zucchini anyone?
Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather – What accomplishments! Who could ask for more? He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed!
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Viola Green; one brother, Roy; and one sister, Elenor; and his son, James.
He is survived by his wife Rose; daughters Jennifer (Glenn) Hosford of Cedar Rapids, IA, Rebecca (Nathan) Lewis of Warroad, MN, Jessica (Don) Craig of Warroad, MN; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, John, Abby, Kayla, Nathaniel, Janessa, Liam, Rylan and Cullen; and three great-grandchildren, Desmond, Connor and Felicity.
It’s been my great privilege to care for my husband these past ten years through his illnesses and Alzheimer’s disease. I’ve never regretted a single moment of our difficult journey. Through it all I gained a deeper love for Jack and for God.
A special thanks goes to my daughters, especially Becky for giving up six months of her life to move in with me and help me care for Jack. Without her I couldn’t have done it. Also thank you to Pastor Scott for not forgetting us, for my two great sisters, Margaret and Susie, and Helgeson’s Funeral Home (you made it easier).
