Ida Lillian Danielson Novacek passed away at Altru hospital in Grand Forks, ND on March 21, 2020. Ida was born on July 12, 1930 to Daniel and Sigrid Christianson Danielson. She was delivered by her father at their home in Malung. Ida’s mother died when Ida was only three years old. Ida and her family moved from the farm into Roseau in 1946.

Ida was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church. She graduated from Roseau High School in 1949. On September 6, 1949 Ida married Ernest Frank Novacek at the parsonage of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Badger. Together they raised 11 children. Watching them grow up and spending time with them was the great joy of her life. She really enjoyed traveling to graduations and weddings of the grandchildren. Ida loved her role as mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Ida had a huge garden and did lots of baking and canning to feed her large family and the friends and relatives who stopped by to enjoy her company. Ida enjoyed raising many pets, especially her favorite dogs Rubber and Brandy and Rascal the raccoon. She and Ernest loved their activities such as chaperoning Girl Scout camp trips, tending a huge garden and beautiful lawn, refinishing furniture, extensive antiquing and traveling around the country. In her later years she loved winters down in Arizona and summer trips to the lake in Bemidji.

Ida was a 70 year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Salem Lutheran Cemetery Committee, her sewing club, the Roseau Friends of the Library, Roseau VFW Auxiliary, Roseau American Legion Auxiliary, DFL, Right to Life and a 26 year board member of the Roseau County Historical Society.

Surviving Ida are all 11 children: Helen (Lee) Lunos, Nola (Craig) Brandt, Debra (Orvis) Haugen, Forrest (Linda) Novacek, Patrick (Arlys) Novacek, Linda (Stewart) Jorgensen, Paul (Kim) Novacek, John (Carol) Novacek, Jeffrey (Josephine) Novacek, Sara (Tom) Herrmann and Karen (Patrick Sullivan) Novacek. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, her sister Glendora Novacek of Greenbush and many nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law Emelia Novacek of Warren and Darlene Novacek of Greenbush.
