Ian Roadfeldt Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Ian Roadfeldt of Roseau, MN will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11 AM at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Roseau.  Visitation will be one hour prior with a lunch/reception to follow.

Ian Roadfeldt passed away at his home on April 28, 2020 at the age of 69.

Ian Mark Stanley Roadfeldt was born in Roseau, MN on June 15, 1950 to E. Stanley and Daphne (Setran) Roadfeldt.  He was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Badger.

He married Gwynne Harders on February 7, 1970.  Ian spent the majority of his working years as an insurance agent, later as Parts Manager at Sorensen Chevrolet. After retirement he enjoyed his part-time employment at D & E Sports.

Ian played tournament bridge for years with his long-time partner, Mike Lundbohm.   He loved playing golf, tennis, pinochle, playing and teaching bridge or any card game. He was an avid fan of baseball, basketball and volleyball. He coached baseball and refereed basketball with Norbert Johnson. He watched all sports and loved supporting local teams. He was happiest following his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities. Ian became quite a chef and enjoyed perfecting his chocolate chip cookie recipe. He taught himself to make lefse and became the official family provider of this treat and passed down the “right way” to roll it.

Ian spent the warmer months crossing Lake of the Woods with his cousin, Sheldon Swenson, searching for walleyes or wading the secret unnamed river on Lake Superior, with Duane Erickson, casting for Steelhead trout. Nothing made him happier than teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish and hunt. When fall came, you could find him “Up North” refining his plan to ambush whitetails with his three children and Donnie Kofstad. He truly loved the outdoors and all the friends and stories it provided.

Ian is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years Gwynne (Harders) Roadfeldt; daughters Traci Flannery of Lakewood, CO, Susan (Jim) Roadfeldt Magera of Oxford, CT; son Matthew Roadfeldt of Denver, CO; grandchildren Cohen and Adeline Cress (Traci), Oliver Magera (Susan); sister Sandra Irwin of Bloomington, IL; sisters-in-law Lynnette Mullins, Patricia (Ed) Haugen, Deborah Novotny; brother-in-law Bob (Kay) Harders; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Edward Roadfeldt and Sophie LaChance, IB and Bertina Setran; parents E. Stanley and Daphne Roadfeldt; parents-in-law Buzz and Jane Harders; brothers-in-law Larry Irwin and Richard Mullins.
