Helen Valborg Bowman Horntvedt was born Sept 11,1930 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Olga (Johnson) and Elmer Bowman.  When Helen was nine her family moved to Potamo Township near Williams, Minnesota where she graduated school in 1947.

Helen married Norman on December 2, 1951 in International Falls, Minnesota and proudly celebrated 60 years of marriage together before his passing in 2011. They lived and worked on the century family farm in Wabanica Township, raising their two sons, Vernon and Michael. Helen had a never ending love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Helen loved to garden, sew, knit and bake.  She was known far and wide for her caramel rolls and fabulous rhubarb crunch. She loved music and treasured her piano and organ where she became a familiar fixture for many a church services, weddings, and funerals. Rock solid in her faith, she was a devout Christian woman who attended church religiously as a true child of God.

Things that will make us think of Helen are the sight of hummingbirds, the smell of fresh mowed grass, farm fields lush and green, ford tractors and big smiles with twinkly blue eyes. Her legacy will live on forever as a woman that had endless energy and loved to share stories of her family, farm, and faith.

Helen is survived by her sons, Vernon (Pam) of Greenbush and Michael (Katie) of Freedom, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kelsey (Chase) Grinsteiner of Strathcona, Kyle (Erin) Horntvedt of Roseau, Chris (Amanda) Horntvedt of Sparks, Nevada, Eric (Kelsey Swanson) Horntvedt of Reno, Nevada; great grandchildren, Ty Grinsteiner, Tate Grinsteiner, Anders Horntvedt, Lila Horntvedt, and Calvin Horntvedt.
