Harriet F (Erickson) Melby

Funeral services following MN St. COVID guidelines will be held for Harriet Melby of Roseau at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Roseau Free Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Badger City Cemetery in Badger.

Harriet Melby passed away on April 8, 2021 at the age of 86. 

Harriet Fay Melby was born on June 22, 1934 to Ernest and Adeline Erickson in Greenbush, Minnesota. Harriet was the oldest of four children. She attended school through eighth grade at a small country school. She married Leslie Melby on November 6, 1951 in Roseau, Minnesota.

 Harriet spent time working at the Greenbush School and Hospital. Additionally, she cooked at Brandt’s Restaurant in Roseau for more than thirty years. In the fall of 2011, she moved to Northern Horizons. Some of her hobbies included cooking and baking, especially lefse and flatbread, crocheting and embroidery. She also enjoyed jam sessions with dancing and music. She loved attending thrashing bees and the Roseau County Fair. She had fun “Bar” Hopping with Barb Housker. Harriet was a member of the Roseau Free Lutheran Church and loved her church family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; her parents, Ernest and Adeline; brothers, Jay and Roy Erickson; sister in-law, Shirley Erickson.

Harriet was survived by her children, Alan (Glenda) Melby Tuscan AZ, Ray (Jewell) Melby Barnett, MS, Lonnie (Jody) Melby Redlands, CA, and Lisa (Gary) Geske of Thief River Falls, MN. Harriet had seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother, Gale Erickson of Grafton, ND; sisters in-law, Sharon and Billie Erickson
