Harlan Knight Obituary

Memorial services for Harlan Knight of Warroad will be held Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Warroad Community Center.  Visitation will start at 2:00 PM.  Interment will be at the America Cemetery south of Warroad, MN.

Harlan Heath Knight passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at his home, south of Warroad at the age of 60 years, 7 months and 15 days. Harlan was born in Warroad, MN on January 1, 1960 to Clair and Elvina (Steele) Knight. He moved with his family to Washington state as an infant before moving back to Warroad, MN a few years later. He grew to manhood there on the family farm and graduated from Warroad High School. Harlan has lived most of his life in the Warroad area, but also lived and worked a few years with family in Oregon. Harlan worked various jobs over his lifetime, learning many skills. He learned welding from his Dad and worked in the shop on equipment. He did metal fabricating, building trailers and other items with his dad and brother, Dan. He worked many winters logging in the woods and a few years building log homes with his brother, Bill. He worked construction on both new and remodeled homes as well as building pole sheds and other business construction. He worked as an electrical journeyman for a few years, and was a heavy equipment operator for road construction and in the ND oil fields.

Harlan’s hobbies included playing the drums, and he played for a few different bands over the years with his brothers Dan and Bill, including most recently playing in the band, Knightlighters. He enjoyed wood working, and built his own home and shop as well as helping family and friends with their construction projects. Like his mom and dad, Harlan loved to garden, growing a big vegetable garden as well as flowers, and had kept both of those up at the family farm these past several years.  He will be remembered for his unmatched talent on the drums, his humorous little one-liners he’d throw into the conversation, always trying to make others smile, his evident love for his family and thoughtful gestures. His never-ending drive to work hard, and get things done, was hard to match! He was never afraid to learn new things, and was always willing to lend a helping hand!

Harlan is survived by one son, Michael Knight and daughters, Susanah Knight and Lindsay Boustead and nine grandchildren; Brayden Blanck, Bailey Erwin, Bentlee & Bristol Knight, Miley Hansen, Masen and MaKya Knight, and Francis & Xavier Pentecost. He is also survived by brother Bill (Linda) Knight, sister Cynthia (Tim) Prothero, all from Angle Inlet, MN, and brother Dan (Julie) Knight of Warroad, 11 nieces and nephews and their spouses, 37 great nieces and nephews, and both a great, great niece and nephew, many cousins, and his faithful dog, Maverick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Elvina Knight, brother Jay Knight, one infant brother.
