Greg passed away at the age of 63.
Gregory Dean Dahl was born on January 12, 1958, to Harry M. and Gudrun (Foss) Dahl in Roseau, MN.
Greg was their youngest child. As a toddler, he would tell people, “I am Mama’s boy, Daddy’s man, and Patty’s pet!” His life was challenging with illness and medical issues prevailing all his life. However, he enjoyed much and loved to laugh. Greg thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings with lots of good food, and he was a good cook, too.
Greg had a mischievous side, too, buying the kinds of toys for his nieces and nephews that the parents hated and the kids loved such as dart guns, cap guns, and water pistols. He would roar with laughter when the shenanigans started! He would spoil special nieces with sweet gifts and cards. He never forgot a birthday, would call to sing happy birthday, and he enjoyed sending “insulting/funny cards”.
Greg loved nature. As a young child, he picked wildflowers for Mom with black-eyed Susan’s being a favorite. He was a good berry picker, even wild strawberries, and catching frogs was a favorite pastime.
Greg was a super good pool player. He would make bets on the game and win, much to the dismay of the unwary opponent. He was a card shark, too, more often than not, coming out the winner in the end!
Greg was a bachelor and was set in his ways. His life was structured, with his meals being on time and his things/stuff in place. Later in life, he led a quiet and simple life and he loved phone calls from family and dear friends.
He had a special network of friends who were very important to him and whom he thoroughly enjoyed. They would spend time together on a weekly basis and Greg often cooked and shared meals with those friends. Greg was also a very appreciative guy, being thankful for anything and everything that people did for him. Getting potatoes and carrots from Bill’s and Pat’s garden each fall was much appreciated.
Greg lived and worked in various places throughout his life, but he found his home in Thief River Falls. Greg was a responsible and trustworthy person. He rented the same apartment for many years and the landlord trusted him to collect the rent from other renters when he was away.
We miss him…
