Gerald D. Levasseur

A Funeral Service for Gerald D. Levasseur of Baudette, MN will be held on April 22, 2022 at 1:00PM at First Lutheran Church in Baudette, MN followed by a memorial gathering and meal.

Gerald Duane Levasseur, 80, passed away peacefully due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis and COPD on Monday January 17, 2022 in Sanford Hospital, Bemidji, MN. A graveside service at Elm Park cemetery in Baudette is scheduled for Friday, April 22, 2022 at 1:00PM followed by a lunch and remembrance at the First Lutheran Church.   

Gerald (Gerry) was born February 26, 1941 in Baudette, MN to Ernest (Bud) and Marion Levasseur.  He was raised in the Carp area next to the Rapid River and attended Carp School until 8th grade and then Baudette High School until graduation in 1959.  Gerald went on to graduate from Bemidji State University, working his way through school by logging, farming in the Kelliher, MN area and serving as a fireman while living at the Bemidji city fire hall.  He was drafted shortly after graduating and served a tour in Vietnam in 1965, an experience he never forgot. After discharge he returned home where he met his future wife of 54 years, Carol, teaching swimming lessons at the old school pool.  They were married in Pengilly, MN in 1967 and then settled in Isanti, MN while Gerald worked as an accountant at GTA in St Paul. 

But his home town called him back and the couple moved to Baudette in 1969 and set up the Tax and Accounting Business that lasted until official retirement in 2008.  Gerald loved to farm in the summers and worked as a contractor while his business grew. He logged and cut the lumber to build a house where the couple raised one daughter, Sheri.   He was involved in many organizations and served on many boards right up to his last days in Baudette.   Gerald will be remembered as a quick thinker, a good listener and a kind, proud man who loved nature, a cup of coffee with friends and his home town.  He will be greatly missed.

Gerald is survived by his wife Carol (DeLeo); daughter Sheri Levasseur; grandchildren Mara, Zoe and Odessa Huber;  brother James (Natalie) Levasseur; Nephew Bradley (Katie) Levasseur and children and many cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  The family has requested donations be made to the Veterans Memorial in Baudette, MN, in lieu of flowers.
