Esther (Baerg) Sawatzky

Esther Sawatzky of Warroad passed away on January 27, 2023 at the Warroad Senior Living Center surrounded by her family at the age of 94.

Esther (Baerg) Sawatzky was born March 3, 1928 in Butterfield, MN; daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Baerg.  She was the third of seven children.         

Esther graduated from the 8th grade; then attended 4 years at Mountain Lake Bible School, graduating there with a Sunday School Teachers Degree.              

On May 28, 1955, Esther married Louis Sawatzky.  In the years to follow they had six children. Living on a farm, Esther became a very efficient  and

handy homemaker for her family. On July 12, 1969, they moved to Warroad, buying a home and acreage south of Swift.   

She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Louie and with their many relatives who came to visit. Esther worked at Marvin Windows for 22 years, retiring

In 1994.  The busy life of gardening, canning, flower gardening, hand stitched quilting, embroidering and entertaining company went on.

Her husband, Louie passed away in 2005. She remained on the farm until 2016 by herself, keeping occupied with hand quilting, doing yard work and

going 4-wheeling by herself or with company. She then moved to the Senior Living Center in Warroad until she passed away on January 27, 2023.

She is survived by 5 children, Lauren (Sheri) of Cook, MN,  Nancy (Robert) Bartinski of Warroad,  Barbara (Jay) Jackson of Warroad,  JoAnn (Nathan) Eisle

of Greenbush,  Debra Sawatzky of Cape Coral, FL,  11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, a sister and a brother.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Louis, daughter Susan Bessler and granddaughter, Leah Eisle.

A Memorial Service for Esther Sawatzky of Warroad will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Woodland Bible Church in Warroad at 11:00am with a visitation an hour prior.
